And welcome to the World of W. Congrats on the decision to build a Cafe Racer. I bought my W650 in 1999 with only one aim : strip it down and mod it to a cafe racer. Well, other prioritise have come and gone, but the W is still there with some changes int a cafe racer but a lot of things still to do as well.
When it comes to Daytona parts : They are impossible to get in Europe without the right contacts. Both EVAmotor and Bruno Doetsch are good contacts. If you want the Daytona Parts, be patient and pay the price.
You are liable to pay taxes in the country where the goods are bought, eg if you buy in Germany, you will pay German tax. The seller should inform you on how much that tax is, it will differ from country to country (even within the EU).
For buying a W650, there are new ones out there, rather pricy (my personal opinion). Good second hands pop up from time to time, keep an eye on all these websites and on ebay but I do advice to buy in England. That will be a lot easier because of importing, shipping, registering...
Hi Joris, Nice to meet you and thankyou for teh excellent information. It all helps.
So far on my wish list of parts....
Goldie - tank either VD Classics France (seem expensive) or 650shop.de Front fender- Daytona I think it is stainless steel Pipes - Not too sure. I like the Supatrapps, but I want maybe upswept reverse cones. I like loud, but not too mad. Seat - Single with hump like a clubmans style so many to choose from. (One with the most comfortable seat thick foam) Ace bars I have downloaded loads of photos, and want to merge loads of ideas, trying not to copy any one design. Most of the pictures come from Japan and a few from:
I like the look of the black W with the supertrapp exhaust. I will buy a UK bike, it is a lot less hassle. Just wish I'd known about the spares when I was working in Kobe, Japan!
What is the best version to get '99 '00 etc? I will not afford a new one.
@Pele: So, they have to cheat. And a boy can be mistaken, but he doesn't cheat.
